I won’t lie; I will be the first to admit that I got the colour choice for the guest room completely and utterly wrong when we initially created that room at the beginning of last year.  I think I wanted to try a warmer colour out, so we went for a Farrow & Ball shade (always!) in New White and, although a lovely colour, it never felt quite right.  I always felt that although it was very cosy in there, it didn’t make the most of the space.

I have always been a huge fan of Gustavian greys and whites together, and I really wanted to create a softer and more Scandinavian feel to the room.  I had a clear picture in my head of how I wanted it to look and what I needed to do to create it.  First I had to change the colour in there and I knew exactly what to do, my old friend “Wevet”, he never lets me down!
When I first walked into the Also Home showroom it was one of those times when I didn’t know where to look first.  It’s a beautiful mix of Japanese homewares and Scandinavian home accessories.  There isn’t often a shop I walk into where I am pretty certain I could find a place for everything in my home.  It’s an interior enthusiast’s dream; with colours and textures to suit all tastes; pieces that will add a touch of quality to any room scheme.  I fell (hard) for the linens.  Oh, the shelves upon shelves lined with dreamy Scandi cushions that I just wanted to jump into (Still very much on my “to do” list).  Anna at Also Home was so helpful in guiding me to what I should choose to make the most of the space and to dress the daybed so that it was practical for both relaxing in peace in the daytime, and as a practical bed for our guests to sleep in.

The colour scheme was a palette of soft greys and whites to compliment the walls and white shutters on the windows.  We chose the Lisbon Silver Grey bed linen; a delicately soft and cosy tumbled linen to keep you cool in summer and cosy in winter.  I had always wanted to try linen bed sheets in our home and now I feel like I need them in our bedroom too!  We complimented and layered the bed sheets with a stunning Stockholm Bedspread in white; made of 100% cotton it brings texture to the bed and is a wonderfully classic piece with a modern Scandinavian twist.  All of the throws are such brilliant quality and look fabulous on a bed, sofa or over a blanket box or window seat.

The cushions were so much fun to layer up and play around with to complement each other.  We decided on the huge Olivia White Linen Pillow, as its sumptuous ruffles create a beautiful backdrop for the other cushions.  I also chose the Stockholm Pillow to match the throw, as I wanted it to create more texture and a little point of difference rather than mirroring the Olivia cushion.  We then chose a pair of Lisbon Cushions in Silver grey; not only to match the bed sheets, but to bring a spark of fresh sophistication against the backdrop of the larger pillows.  Lastly, we dressed the bed with two of the smaller Copenhagen Grey on White cushions.  These were the perfect pair to finish the layering of cotton and linen; the woven diamond design gives a subtle Scandinavian feel and the texture of the cushions against the linen are truly hygge.

To finish the room restyle I needed new accessories.  All of the furniture was staying the same, so I needed to find pieces that would make the room feel entirely different in theme even though I wasn’t changing the big stuff!  Anna advised me to try a new tray on the top of the chest and perhaps a woven lantern to bring the hygge feel out even more.  There were so many wooden trays to choose from; I went for the Whitewashed Reclaimed Style Trug-tray which I filled with vintage finds, and I chose the small natural Otta Woven Bamboo Lantern to sit on the shelf above the bed.  All of these pieces were really set off by some vintage pieces I picked up from an antiques fair; a hanging mirror, glass jar/vase and some shelf brackets which were perfect to place a reclaimed board upon and create a feature shelf above the bed.

Anna also suggested a floor basket as a feature under the window, which turned out to be the best place to store an occasional rug for the floor.  I chose the Liten Seagrass Basket and it looks just perfect.  I finished the room by adding a brass hanging frame with a recently purchased greetings card from a brocante fair (with a bee on, of course!), and a perfect rattan light pendant to complete the look.

I felt that all of the additional pieces I sourced were inspired by what I had seen in the Also Home showroom; I wanted to create that modern, cosy and eclectic feel in the room.  It’s not a look I have tried in any other room of the house and I love it so much.  The styles and fabrics in Also Home have given me the confidence to try new things in the house and I cannot wait to add a little bit of the Also Home feel into each and every room.
I’m really pleased with the finished room.  It looks so much bigger, brighter and the dreamy collection of cotton and linen bed cushions give it oodles of class and appeal.  I think our guests are going to love it,  and I hope you do too!
