So, What Do You Do?

5th October 2017 by featheringtheemptynest 24 Comments

“Oh, well, um; I’m not really sure?” *Pauses, stutters words, and in a second goes from a confident grown-up to a bumbling moron who can’t seem to string a sentence together*

Yes, that’s me.  All of the above.  If I am honest, I am pretty sick of that question and what it means.  It wasn’t until recently I realised just how much it annoyed me, and just how much we are defined by what we “do“.  Of course, it used to be a question that didn’t phase me at all; a question I could answer confidently in a nano-second with a very proud “Oh, I work in sales in London for *Insert name of BIG cosmetics giant here*”.  What a conversation opener, oh how interesting and engaging I was.  Yes, my job seemed to define me in social situations and I didn’t even care.

I Am a Vilomah- Guest post by Nicole Bowles from “Our Missing Peace”

11th September 2017 by featheringtheemptynest 5 Comments

I first met Nicole at my brother and sister-in-law’s wedding in April 2016.  We were both thirty-something weeks pregnant; me with Teddy, and her with their fourth son….also Edward! We sat together, talked, laughed and joked.  Both being heavily pregnant I obviously asked her if it was her first baby, and how many other children she had.  Oh, how I look back now and cringe a little at my own blissful ignorance.  Nicole was one of the first people who reached out to me after Teddy died; one of the first people I spoke to who truly understood the emotions I was going through.  I will be eternally grateful to her for the love, support and helpful words that she offered to me during those first weeks of loss.  Nicole has now embarked on an incredible campaign that seeks to help all parents in loss.  Something that has been born out of her passion and belief that we all need to start this conversation, and we must not shy away from the subject.  I am so proud to have her share her story with you all, so I’ll let her take it from here.  Elle x

It’s OK To Be Different…

4th September 2017 by featheringtheemptynest 31 Comments

I feel extremely privileged that since I began writing about losing Teddy, and the life that we have found ourselves in since that day,  that people now write to me to share their experiences of loss.  Hearing that others have found comfort in my words after losing a child or have been able to make sense of their own feelings during loss, makes me realise how essential it is for us all to try and talk about this subject as openly as possible.  It makes people feel less alone, and that can only be a good thing.

Doing It for Myself

10th August 2017 by featheringtheemptynest 101 Comments

The more I have shared photos of myself on social media recently (as opposed to my preferred snaps of interiors!), the more I have been found that those photos have been met with comments about my appearance and how great people think I look.  This isn’t me blowing my own trumpet, quite the opposite, I feel like it’s more of a confessional really as to why my body, skin and general appearance have improved in recent months. It most certainly hasn’t been born out of a want to look different, I can promise you that; not that there would be anything at all wrong if it had.

About me

A blog of learning to navigate through life when the plan doesn’t go to plan. When the unthinkable happened, my home saved me. My passion for creating a home became a lifeline; a way of recovery. Here, I share with you some of my thoughts, my home style and most importantly how this all came to be after the loss of our beautiful baby boy, Teddy. Teddy lived for just three days, his time on this earth may have been short, but his impact has been immense. This is my motherhood.

Instagram post 2195273136004801298_1439492759 Last Christmas...
We said “this time next year...”
We promised ourselves that things would be different by now, and that it wouldn’t hurt this much.
We pasted on smiles through gritted teeth and pretended the heartbreak of a first cancelled round of IVF wouldn’t break us.
We dreamt of a year ahead that wouldn’t end with empty arms.
We closed our eyes and made a wish that none of this had happened and that you were still here with us.
We watched as happy families enjoyed the most wonderful time of the year in anticipation that next year our time would come too.
We promised we wouldn’t put our lives on hold for another year of trying, hoping, cancelling plans and wishing things were different.
💫
Last Christmas seems a lifetime ago, and all in the same breath not so far away from this year at all.
This year feels like everything and yet nothing has changed. A year of treatment after treatment, procedure after hospital appointment.
Negative after negative. Laughter and tears all rolled into one.
Christmas can be a blissful reminder of everything we have to be so grateful for, and yet a sobering reminder of everything we have lost, or that we have yet to call our own.
If like me, you’re struggling this year, no matter why, then know that you’re not alone. You are never alone.
Do whatever you need to do to protect your own heart❤️

They already source 96% of the cotton for their cotton products sustainably. By 2020, this will be 100%.
So many of their other products are made using recyclable materials now…it’s well worth a browse for your loved ones this Christmas! ✨🌿🎄
