I know you can’t really be at liberty to say “My favourite place on earth” until you’ve actually travelled most places, but for me, if I were to take that liberty, I would most certainly say North Cornwall. It has been my happiest place for many years, and the place we go to escape whenever times aren’t as happy.  So when Joules asked me if I would like to partner with them to take my Mum on a girls trip to one of my favourite hotels, the answer was a pretty obvious one. Here is a little round-up of our break in one of my favourite bays…

Mum and I love to go on an annual girls trip, and seeing as Watergate Bay is our top coffee/lunch spot when we are in Cornwall it seemed the perfect place for us to be staying. The best part? Watergate Bay is a completely dog friendly hotel, so guess who came along for the ride?

Our room had been decked out with Joules goodies and bedding for our arrival. Joules has been a partner of Watergate Bay hotel for many years, and you quickly notice around the hotel that’s why the team there all look so stylish!  The view from our room was quite incredible, perfect for watching the sun go down, or enjoying a cuppa in the afternoon sunshine.

Of course, being Cornwall, the sun didn’t always shine for our trip!  We made the most of the weather where we could on the first day in-between showers.  Boris always loves a beach walk at Watergate, and usually blasts around the bay trying to make friends with everyone. It’s an all year round dog-friendly beach, so we always take him there when we are in Cornwall.  Of course on a rainy day it’s the perfect excuse to escape to the hotels Living Space after a rainy walk, for coffee or lunch. I must say, you feel rather smug sitting in there when it’s pouring outside!

A Joules raincoat is a must on a rainy day in Cornwall…

After a restful afternoon of tea and cake, we headed back to the Living Space for dinner. Again, it was perfect for us as we could bring Boris along too. You can leave dogs in the room if you wish, they have Joules beds, and even monitoring systems so you can keep an eye on them while you pop elsewhere in the hotel. He was quite happy to sleep under the table, and got lots of attention from the team in the Living Space.

We did leave him for a couple of hours the following day when we took time to enjoy a treatment at the hotel spa (sorry Boz, no pugs in the pool!). I had a fantastic massage and Mum had a facial. We both agreed they were the best treatments we had had in a long while.  We also took some time to make the most of the hotels outside cedarwood hot tub; complete with breathtaking views across the bay!  The hotel Swim Club  is child friendly, but there were adult only swim times both morning and evenings for those wishing for a quieter swim session. The outside sauna and hot tub are adults only, so it’s the perfect place to relax.

We made the most of our visit with a trip into Padstow. If you have not been, it’s a must visit in North Cornwall with lots of lovely restaurants and shops (and of course a Joules!).  You can stop for coffee, get the ferry across to Rock, or even cycle the Camel Trail along from Padstow Harbour to Wadebridge (Even Boris has done it!).  Joules had just started the first day of their sale, and I couldn’t resist a bargain!

I have to say, two of my favourite things about our trip were the breakfasts (because who doesn’t want to try their hand at making their own waffles?!) and the sunsets.  The fact that you can enjoy all of your meals with the most breathtaking views is definitely a winner for me.  We ate at the Beach Hut for dinner too, somewhere I have eaten for lunch before and another dog-friendly restaurant at the hotel.  The atmosphere in the evening was relaxed and informal and the food delicious; we were spoilt with another beautiful sunset that evening too.

It was hard to leave the hotel after such a wonderful stay with Joules, so much so that we actually checked ourselves in for an extra night.  Well, you have to make the most of Cornwall when you have travelled all that way, don’t you?  The sun may not have shone for all of our trip, but we certainly made the most of the moments it did!  I have put together a few of my favourite summer picks from the Joules summer collection for when the weather does finally pick up…

The perfect summer dress.

The best fitting denim shorts have I tried!

Did someone say Lobster shoes?

An easy, breezy top to wear from day to evening.

Our trip with Joules was everything I knew it would be, and I had the best time away with my Mum.  We were so grateful to Joules for hosting us and felt very lucky to be there.  Until next time Watergate Bay….
